Splices provide permanent joints between fibers, with fusion splicing offering the lowest loss and highest reliability, while mechanical splicing aligns fibers precisely for light transmission .Optical Amplifiers and RepeatersAmplifiers boost the strength of optical signals to compensate for attenuation over long distances, extending the reach of the network . Repeaters may also be used to regenerate signals in very long links.Supporting ComponentsAdditional components include optical splitters, which divide light signals for multiple destinations, and optical filters, which selectively transmit desired wavelengths to maintain signal integrity .
